Bikers Against Drugs

Welcome to Bikers Against Drugs

Bikers Against Drugs (BAD) is a non-profit organization of bikers and non-bikers who have banded together in an effort to help stop the spread of drug addiction – through knowledge and support.

Drug addiction and substance abuse are two major public health problems that have a major impact on society.  Drug addiction and abuse affect every person in the individual’s family, whether directly or indirectly.

Drug addiction and substance abuse cost society in increased health care costs, motor vehicle crash costs, crime, and lost productivity.  The personal cost of drug abuse is immeasurable.

Alcohol is a large part of drug abuse; and underage drinking is on the rise.  Today, the average age an American girl has her first drink is 13 for a boy it's 11. In the U.S. and many other countries, underage drinking is a widespread problem with often serious consequences. Young people who drink are more likely to be the victims of violent crime, to be involved in alcohol-related traffic accidents, and to have depression and anxiety. Other risky behaviors are also linked to early drinking.  (Read article from Harvard Medical School on the dangers of early age alcohol use.)

Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are among the most commonly abused drugs by 12th graders, after alcohol, marijuana, synthetic marijuana (e.g., "Spice"), and tobacco. Youth who abuse prescription medications are also more likely to report use of other drugs.  (Read about teens’ use of prescription drugs.)

BAD has initiated a three-part effort to help those who suffer from addiction to any substance.  Here’s how we have started to help:

Before, with knowledge and support:  Fund local organizations that provide information and support on drug abuse and addiction to all those who seek it.

A
fter, if a victim of drug abuse weather it is an OD or someone killed by a drunk driver:  Help pay for funeral, burial, medical costs (if they are not insured), or extend necessary, essential financial aid.

During:  Help those in active addiction, who are seeking recovery by:  Providing rides to detox, AA, or NA meetings; and, providing information on where to get help, and helping to pay for counseling if they are not insured.
